Jackie Chamoun Cake and a Kitchen Hack

Lebanon has been taken by a boob storm yesterday. Search it to know more because I won’t be sharing any news about that. I was laughing at the reactions on twitter the whole time. Not only because of the tweeps’ reactions and jokes but for the heroic acts of ministers and officials who took the case as their own and wanted to be the superhero of the day.

Well guess what? YOU CAN’T CONTROL THE BOOB.

This might be the fastest post that was ever done on Cook in Five Square Meters from start to finish. I started at 10 p.m., the moment I got back from the Clown In Me workshop I’m taking, baked, styled, shot, edited, wrote and posted in less than 24 hours. I have to mention though that I have been planning this post since yesterday noon as I read the tweets. I called mom and asked her to get me the ingredients I need, since I was gonna be home late.

I have not shared any news about the Jackie Chamoun incident, but after reading about how blog hits went crazy and every copy/paste blog shared photos and videos, and every opinions blog owner shared their opinion, I said to myself I’m going to use the media for my own benefit. I’m still posting a recipe, it’s Wednesday. In fact I’m sharing a kitchen hack as well that will make lazy folks get off their lazy bums and bake themselves a cake in around 20 minutes.

The hack in this cake is that I used a ready cake mix. BUT instead of using oil, water and eggs as directed, I used a bottle of sparkling water. It works perfectly. Here I used strawberry cake mix with plain sparkling water. You can go creative with mixing and matching cake flavors with any sparkling drink or soda.

I hope this cake won’t threaten national security. Check the country’s rules and regulations before attempting to bake it.

Jackie Chamoun 2-ingredient Cake

Ingredients

For the cake

  • 1 box cake mix
  • 1 can soda or sparkling water (I used a 500ml bottle, but a 330ml would be advisable)

For the buttercream frosting

  • 1.5 cups butter at room temperature (feel free to add/replace/substitute a part for another fat like coconut oil)
  • 2 cups powdered sugar
  • 1 tsp vanilla

Procedure

  • Heat the oven to 180 degrees
  • Mix the soda with the cake mix and spread on rimmed baking sheet lined with baking paper and sprayed with oil
  • Bake for 15 minutes on the middle rack. Set aside to cool
  • Beat the butter with an electric mixer until soft and creamy
  • Add the vanilla and mix
  • Gradually sift the sugar over the butter while beating until it’s creamy and frosting consistency
  • Cut the cool cake into round and stack each 3 separated by a dab of frosting
  • To thin the frosting, use a tsp of milk at a time until you reach the desired consistency

Use the left overs to make cake balls or simply eat while doing the dishes

I’m taking the rest of the cake to the clowns at the workshop for us to share, or smash into each other’s faces

    • I usually refrain from using ready-made mixes. But the moment called for that. I barely had time. I think I’ll use that trick again the next time I’m asked to bake something for the office (35+ persons) instead of declining.

  1. Had I known this tip sooner! Thanks a lot for this valuable information. I’ve got a couple boxes of Pillsbury oatmeal chocolate chip cookie mix lying around the kitchen. Will definitely opt for sparkling water instead of eggs, oil, and water.
