All Protein Vegan Soup

We are finally witnessing some wet action in Lebanon. Yes. It’s raining.

When we were children, we used to make up stories about the rain; God is watering the plants, God is washing the floor, God is bathing, or God is peeing. It’s a beautiful thing a child’s imagination but few are able to hold on to it as adults. Don’t you wish you never grew up? It’s a trap.

If it were for children to cook, except for those on Top Chef Junior, they would dump everything in one pot and it’s done. Or was that my sister’s concept of cooking?

Ramen soup attempt and Jaï

Reading this article had made me want to try this Ramen soup. Sadly, I don’t think there is any restaurant or a kiosk that serves this type of Asian specialty.

Ramen and Jai-cookin5m2-1

To my excitement, Mike and I had an Asian restaurant to try. I know it’s been there for almost a year, but I didn’t get the chance to try it. Jaï. (give the man some love on his facebook page)

Jaï is located at the beginning of Hamra Street. It’s not practically a restaurant; it has only one table, as they work mainly for takeaways and home deliveries. What’s wonderful is sharing this only table with people you might meet there. This happened in front of us. The 2 groups of 4 left with a wide smile on their faces.
After a talk with the chef and owner about the type of business he’s running and about the food, its freshness, quality and flavors, he helped us choose some good items from the generous menu.

Marinated chicken in marinara sauce with coriander and garlic roasted vegetables

I’m not a health freak. Let’s clear that up upfront.

I haven’t studied anything related to food or health. Unless you count reading food blogs and food-related articles. It’s only passion that drives me to cook/bake and blog.

Therefore I’m not going to tell you to eat this and don’t eat that. We can eat whatever we feel like. The trick is moderation & enjoyment. Like, I’ve had cholesterol sticks the other day, fried cheese rolls. They were delicious. I enjoyed them. I didn’t starve myself afterwards, and I didn’t think how shall I burn those calories. I indulged in that stick and allowed it to crunch under my teeth and let its hot filling ooze in my mouth. In addition, whenever I feel like it, and I know I haven’t had lots of fatty food during the day (you see what I did there? Moderation) I treat myself with a chocolate cupcake and let its creamy frosting stick to the bottom of my mustache.

The 2-5-40 Challenge: Summer Rolls and Vegetable Chicken Noodles

Summer-rolls-and-noodles-cover

This is the final post of the series. For the rest of the series go to this link (2-5-40 Challenge)

Although I set out a plan for the week, I felt like breaking it one day. I didn’t want to make anything from the menu, instead, I improvised.

It takes some time for one to start allowing oneself to ditch the book and follow the instinct. It doesn’t always work that way. They say, while cooking you can follow your taste and instinct, but while baking, ALWAYS FOLLOW THE RECIPE. I got to understand & get convinced by that each time I messed up a recipe because I skipped or replaced or decreased/increased the amount of a certain ingredient. The 2-5-40 Challenge: Moroccan Couscous Chicken

For part one of the challenge, click here.

Moroccan Couscous with Chicken

After deciding upon the dishes for the 5 days at the beginning of the challenge, preparing the ingredients was easy. All I had to do was write down all the required ingredients, circle the ingredients I don’t have at home and walk down the aisles of the supermarket and collect my groceries.
